Maternity Halloween outfit ideas, the witch, the cat and the goth

Halloween party outfits have moved on from the traditional zombie bride, vampire and green face painted witch, with the style conscious turning to a more subtle look for the event.

Simple black dresses with cat ears, or devil horns and red heels are all acceptable in today's Halloween style world and this is great news for pregnant ladies who want to attend that party without feeling left out.

As the event draws close we thought it was time we got into the spirit and gave you some ideas on how to dress your bump in subtly scary style without blowing the bump budget.

Choosing a simple black maternity dress, which can be worn again and again, is a great place to begin. A skater skirted style will add to the gothic look as well as giving a nod to to one of this season's hottest trends. Use this as the base of your outfit and style subtly around it.

Add a pair of statement cat ears or go for a pointed hat to give a nod to traditional costumes, or take it to an even subtler level using a range of accessories, such as skull earrings, printed scarves, and brooches.

See the gallery below for some maternity Halloween inspiration.

Start with a simple black dress like this one from Asos, £20

Keep it simple, adding accessories such as these skull earrings from Topshop

Give a nod to the Halloween Witch with this cute brooch from QVC

Or add a pair of cat ears like these from Amazon, £9.44,  for a more traditional approach.

We also heart this shopper from Suicide Blonde, which is perfect for that Halloween party and a nod to the gothic look for months to come.
